Went on a friend's recommendation and got the "Hogzilla." This monstrosity of a baked potato topped with your choice of meat, whatever else is in stock, including the Brunswick Stew, blew me out of the water. Basically when you pull in to park and see the woodpile next door, you know you're in for a treat.

I was driving from Florida to Columbia and wanted to stop and try ribs at a couple of the spots I have been reading about. I was on a mission to try Babe's and Gary Lee's Meat Market in Brunswick. In pulling up I saw the famous grill of Babe's Barbecue Shack and could see & smell it for myself. I started to smile ..... The smile was short lived, unfortunately. The brisket was thinly sliced and not bad. They were covered in the yellow mustard sauce that was just ok, to me..... not even in the ball park. of Gary Lee's. My biggest disappointment were the ribs .... while tender they were fatty and seemed like they were boiled. They may not be but it seemed like they were ..... They are getting rave reviews BUT sadly I will pass by this shack in the future ....if you are in Savannah go to Wiley's ....... they are GRRRRREAT!!!!! GREAT!!!

We weren't even looking for a place to eat as we drove by but the smell ( even with our car windows closed!) caused us to literally turn around a half mile up the road as we looked at each other and said, wow, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Yep, it is that good. Like a magnet that smell.... Sure it looks decrepit and probably just on the line regarding health department certification but hey, we are talking supreme barbecue here my friends!!! The smoke house with the stacks of wood outside and the smoke wafting into your nostrils is a great introduction to what lies inside this small, order at the counter from a chalkboard menu "dive". But I'm here to tell you this is some of the best BBQ I've ever eaten - anywhere!! My brisket was unbelievable and the burnt ends spectacular. I thought I'd hit the jackpot until I tasted my wife's short ribs. OMG!! A huge plate of ribs for $7.95? Unheard of!! Fall off the bone, perfect smoke, incredible BBQ sauce, cooked to perfection. This is BBQ nirvana!! It doesn't get any better than this. Anywhere. This is the end of the rainbow. Wow.

Didn't feel like barbecuing for the 4th of July so I went to Babe's barbecue and was very pleased with the food and service. Always can count on these guys everytime.

I was down in the Savannah area for work, so being from the northeast where good BBQ is few and far between, I had to find a good southern BBQ place. All of the locals said you don't need to look for one, just go to Babe's. Who am I to argue with the locals? I didn't expect Babe's name to be so literal. It does have the appearance of a shack. Including a statue of Babe Ruth at the parking lot entrance. As a Yankee fan, I can appreciate that. The smokers are located outside around back and as soon as I got out of my car, the aroma of deliciousness filled my nose. I had to try the brisket first, since if a BBQ place can't make a good brisket, they're not worth trying again. The brisket melted in my mouth, it was fantastic. The mustard based sauce was a bit different to me, but it was still very good. I went back a few more times to try the sausage and chopped pork, both of which were delicious. I can't recommend Babe's enough if you're in the Savannah area. It's only about 10 minutes off I-95, so even if you're passing by, take the exit and give it a try.

I wanted to love this place and I even tried it a second time after my first experience was average. It wasn't any better the second time. I had the pork and brisket plate with collard greens. The brisket didn't melt in my mouth like I hoped and there wasn't very much of it considering the price. The pork was better, but not better enough to make a special trip for. They also heated both meats in the microwave before serving them to me. I don't think that helped either.

Not worth the detour on our drive south: Con - Brisket was fatty. Potato salad was 'unnatural'. Pro - Best thing was sauce and collard greens.

Great American food. Outside appearance was a bit deterrent but when we got inside it was nice. Good price for some homey food. The collards green is a bit too sweet for me.

Glad I found this place through yelp! Every time my boyfriend comes into town we HAVE to eat here. Mac and Cheese is my fav! Brisket is to die for! First time we went in there the owner gave us a sampler of everything off the menu, I mean talk about customer service! AAA++++ in my book. Tips? Grab something to eat sooner rather than later. Food is popular!!!!!

Not only did these guys live up to our "southern hospitality" ideations by re-opening just so we could try their BBQ, but they loaded us up with the best ribs (fell off the bone), chopped pork, collards, beans and a concoction called Brunswick stew that I would eat over and over again. In fact, we chowed down the next day on the leftovers. Delicious!

We came in at the perfect time for lunch, we got in and were able to order before the place was swamped. Our food came out quickly and the guys working behind the counter were very friendly. The ribs were tasty but honestly just a little too fatty. The brunswick stew rocks! We will definitely return, just will have to try something other than the ribs.

Had lunch there today. My food had to have been reheated . The brisket was tough and dry. The collard greens were room temp and old tasting. The other diners with me thought their food was marginal at best.

Amazing BBQ! We were driving through Savannah and wanted to stop for some good BBQ and this absolutely did not disappoint. The ribs are AMAZING.. They literally melt off the bone. Brisket is also great and Mac n cheese side is too. Really friendly service. If I am in Savannah again I will definitely go back!

You might be tempted to keep on driving by this place if you even manage to notice it from the road. It is indeed shack-like. This is no hyperbole like some places in the city that use the word "shack" in their names to suggest an authenticity they don't deserve. It is on these unexpected road sides where the "real McCoy" local food can be often be found and in this case, that's the absolute truth. Just don't be expecting anything remotely "fancy-pants". During our southern barbecue binge, we literally stumbled upon this place while looking for yet another hole-in-the-wall barbecue shack that we'd heard about. That other place unfortunately was not to be found; it must have closed, but just as we were despairing over this, we saw a sign for Babe's. It was meant to be; the BBQ angels were looking out for us. We pulled in and asked a gentleman who had just exited the doors and was heading to his car what he thought. He waxed poetic about how good the food was here and told us we'd be crazy not to try it. He said he was originally from Texas and "knew good BBQ" and that he'd traveled all over the south eating BBQ over the years and that Babe's was one of the best. We quickly parked our car. We're so glad we took his advice. This place is beyond unpretentious but with delicious country-style food. It is the antithesis of "fine dining" and that was fine by us. It's the typical southern BBQ set-up of a meat plus two sides. There is no alcohol license so tea, water or soft drinks is what you can get. I got the pork ribs here and my husband got the brisket. Both were absolutely delicous, mouthwateringly savory and tender, expertly smoked and barbecued. We were in southern barbecue heaven. Although I can't imagine someone who is not a meat eater wanting to come here but if you were such a person and found yourself dragged here by BBQ fiends, there are plenty of delicious sides like the mac and cheese that could easily make you swoon. The desserts, which were an assortment of southern style cakes looked quite tempting, but we both were too full to do more than gaze lovingly at the display. There was a beautiful Red Velvet cake for one. I used the rest room here and I am happy to report that it was clean and not scary. On the way out we talked to one of the cooks who was outside at that smoker shack. He was generous with his cooking and meat smoking tips but something tells me, that even with our own smoker set-up at home it may be hard to reach the culinary heights of this humble place. .

Incredible. We were driving from VA to FL. Got on Yelp to find some local non-chain BBQ and did we find it. This place was about 10 minutes off the highway and well worth the detour. We had Babes Feast, 1/2 a chicken, chopped pork, baked beans, Texas toast and Redneck ravioli, which was the best thing I've ever tasted. The entire meal was delicious and well priced. Fed our family of four with left overs. The redneck ravioli was a complete surprise, Brunswick stew over Mac and cheese. We loved it so much. Highly recommend!!!!!

Soooo... Read the reviews and thought it might be a good place for BBQ...Well my co workers and I were extremely disappointed with our food. I'm a bit of an amateur BBQ connoisseur. Whenever I go anywhere that should have good BBQ, I go to multiple BBQ joints and try to find the best while I am there. I got the low country pulled pork sandwich w/ coleslaw on top and a side of potato salad. The meat was ok tasting( I always taste the meat first before putting sauce or anything on it--So I can judge it with out interference of any sauce. I need to put sauce on it to make it good. It barely had any coleslaw on it as well... The potato salad was tasteless... simple as that. One friend got the brisket and a side of coleslaw. He said he knew it was going to be bad before trying it. The reason being the put sauce on it before he even got it (trying to hide the tasteless meat) He scrapped the sauce off to try just the meat and said it wasn't good and that it seemed like it was boiled and not smoke/grilled. Needless to say he had to drench all of his food in sauce to make it descent. Other friend got smoke sausage and a side of Brunswick stew. He said the sausage and Brunswick stew was good, but later his stomach said otherwise...(I won't go into detail on that...but you can imagine..) On top of the bad food.. The price vs size ratio of food is way off for both the main dish and the sides. For example for $2 I got a scoop of potato salad.. and not a big scoop either. I would not recommend nor would I ever go back to try anything else after we were all disappointed. Normally I would give it another shot if I didn't like one thing, but seeing as how my friends and I got 3 different things and all were disappointed...I won't be coming back. Visited May 2014

Babe's Barbecue Shack hit a grand slam with my taste buds!! One of the best BBQ places in the country! Travel out of your way and get here! Seriously...leave now! The Chopped Pork Plate at $7.50 comes with a side and one piece of Texas Toast; the side: Redneck Ravilo--A MUST! It is Brunswick Stew on-top of Mac-n-Cheese!! A second piece of Texas Toast would be a great addition, but not required. Redneck Reuben at $6.95 is beef brisket, grilled onions, cole slaw, bbq sauce, swiss cheese, and chipotle mayo. The STANDOUT is the Black & Blue at $6.50! It is beef brisket, grilled onions, and blue cheese. Perfect combination of flavors--DELICIOUS! All three choices were great and we would definitely get them again! I can't wait to come back! So in the meantime, everyone "get your butts in here!!"

This place was hands down the best BBQ from Jacksonville to Washington DC. We stopped here as a part of our annual i95 BBQ tasting road trip and couldn't have been happier we did. Only a quick 5 minute drive off the highway, this place is well worth a mini detour. As for the food, you can't go wrong with anything. The ribs and brisket were melt in your mouth amazing and the pulled pork was equally fabulous! Smoked & flash fried chicken wings were also stellar. Thanks Tommy and team for the wonderful southern hospitality! We will be back.

The short- great barbeque, great sides, at a great price. The long - see below. Barbeque is easy to screw up. My wife hates it when I order ribs because she knows I will probably be disappointed. I was not disappointed when I came to this spot. It was Yelp that told me that this location existed and since I had never been in the area I rely on this website heavily. It is a tiny little spot, the combination platters are awesome , the BBQ is awesome all of the sides are awesome, the people are friendly. The owner of this barbecue place was on site when we were there, and I got the impression that he was there all the time. He took the time to speak to me and my son as out of towners. He had a genuine interest in where we were from and why we were there and once we began a dialogue he was 100% perfect representation of southern hospitality. Once he found out that I have spent some time in the military as a food service sergeant he even begin to provide me some slow cook barbeque secrets which I found to be fascinating. Now let's talk about BBQ. The ribs were fall off the bone tender perfectly seasoned and succulent. I will be the first to tell you that I am more of a dry rub rib aficionado, and do not normally get ribs that are liquid or wet based barbecue. However these were awesome the sauce was awesome. How about the brisket? Anyone who has ever tried to slow cook or smoke a brisket knows that it is an absolute science and it is so easy to screw up. Even the owner of the restaurant said that they had made numerous attempts over a long period of time trying to get the brisket perfect before they were willing to sell it to the public, which also tells me how serious he takes his BBQ! His brisket was so tender and juicy and not dried out that I could have taken a flimsy plastic fork and cut it. My only suggestion for this location in the future is to offer a dry rub offering when the orders are being taken. My ribs came out already with the wet sauce on it which turned out to be a blessing because it was delicious. To be fair I did not ask for dry rub ribs which I really do not have an excuse for. One other thing, I don't know if they were available because I did not ask for them but some wet naps at the end of the meal would have been really nice. BOTTOM LINE- If you want great barbeque at a reasonable price that is not in the middle of the savannah tourist trap this is the spot.

We literally followed our noses to some delicious barbecue! You smell barbecue as you drive down the highway and we decided to turn around and go find it. So glad we did. Yes, it is indeed a shack with a 2nd shack which serves as the smoke house next door. You know as soon as you walk in and see the guys behind the counter that you're likely in good hands. You could picture any of them participating in a barbecue competition very easily. They just look like they know what they're doing. Hubby ordered the brisket sandwich with cole slaw and I went for the plate of ribs with a side of mac and cheese. They cook spare ribs here, which was just fine by me. My meal cost $7.95 and when it was delivered to my table, I was amazed with the pile of ribs it contained. For $7.95 I got a mother lode of ribs that were fall off the bone tender and delicious! Their barbecue sauce has a mustard base and it's really yummy. We also brought a hot version of the sauce in a squirt bottle to the table for adding a little kick. I had plenty of ribs to share with hubby, which delighted him no end. My mac & cheese was a perfect side and actually stayed hot all the way through my lunch. My boy's brisket was really delicious but a bit messy to eat as a sandwich. I would have preferred a pile of it on my plate to the sandwich. We didn't know we were about to find a little hidden gem when we followed our noses in here and we're soooo happy we did!

If you look through my reviews, you can easily see that I love BBQ. Born and raised in Charleston, BBQ has been a staple of my diet for as long as I can remember. When I saw all the great reviews this place was getting, I HAD to stop here on the way down to Jax. Well, it was ok. Not really worth the drive from 95 to get here. Portions were somewhat small, at least compared to other BBQ places I've been. I saw the subtle smoke ring on the pulled pork, but didn't really taste it. Again, it wasn't bad, just not what I was hoping for.

Off the charts! Pulled pork, ribs, sausages were all amazingly smoky and tender. The Brunswick stew is unbelievably delicious and the redneck stew is a must have because of it. Thumbs up by all the kids and the owner/chef and staff couldn't have been any nicer! As a NYC gang in Savannah-we also loved the Babe statue of course!

"One of the best barbeque we've had to a long time!" ...and we try A LOT of barbeque restaurants! We were tired & hungry...on the road 5 hours, with 5 more hours to go! We searched Yelp for "Restaurants off I95 near Savannah." Babe's Barbeque Shack had really high ratings and we were close. Always up for a great local find, we headed there. The owner & workers greeted us warmly; great customer service! We had an assortment of items off their menu: pork sandwich, house sausage, beans, potato salad, Brunswick stew and sampled ribs & brisket (they ran out for a full order but had a little for us to try). A great find for us! We will be swinging by again next time we are in the area.

I used to work five minutes away from Babe's and I miss having this treasure for lunch. You could easily drive by and not notice this unassuming looking restaurant on highway 80 near Napa Auto Parts. Before it burned down in 2009 (due to an "accident" from what I hear), their building was literally a shack! They have since expanded with a new building with 6-7 tables, but still get there early because it will be packed for lunch. Where it counts is on the side where they have two large smokers where they smoke the meats for hours their own special blend of woods. The pulled pork sandwich is tender and smokey. The beef brisket is amazing and so delicious. I recommended their potato salad as a side and their sweet tea.

  • William K.

This place is great, some of the freshest and most tasty pulled pork I have had in a long time. The building is new, I believe the previous building was destroyed by a fire. It is all indoor seating now with probably a dozen or so tables. This place was a recommendation from a buddy of mine and I'm glad I tried it. I had the pulled pork sandwich on a bun w/ brunswick stew as the side, it was delicious. It is slightly out of the way on hwy 80 in Garden City but well worth the short drive.

Excellent food. We found this place on a work trip using Yelp and it sure did not dissappoint! Had the pulled pork and mac & cheese and both were outstanding. In fact, we liked it so much that we had lunch there on back to back days! Might be hard to find but it will be even harder to forget!

We stopped off here on the way to Charleston, and a great find it was. I had the rib sandwich with a side of collards, while my wife had the brisket plater w macaroni and cheese. To say that the ribs were perfect is an understatement as were the collards. As for the brisket, it was tender but not over smoked. Macaroni and cheese was good but not great. Even their "spicy" sauce was on the money, although if you're a chile head you won't break a sweat. I liked it so much that I'm thinking of stopping by on the way back to Miami. Did I mention it is now at the top of my list? A place formerly reserved for the Smokin' Rib Shack in Clearwater Fl.

Heading to the airport I had some time to kill and was craving some BBQ. Turned to yelp and was not let down. I'm usually weary of 5 star places in the middle of nowhere but Babe's bbq shack didn't dissapoint. Had the chopped pork sandwich and coleslaw and even a sample of their "famous" stew. Pork was perfect. Smokey and tender on a soft white bun. The sauce was delicious and if I wasn't hopping on a plane I would have tried to get some to take home. Definitely coming back next time I'm in town.

While driving from Miami to New York, we stopped by Babe's for what my friends affectionately call "first dinner." I would have thought twice about going there if it were later in the evening because it's literally a shack on the side of the highway but it was still early and we read the rave reviews on Yelp. Nothing else mattered when we were presented with some of the best barbecue I've had in a long time. The staff is nice. The bathroom is clean. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town. YUM!

Good BBQ & Brunswick Stew, ribs & pork. Wife had fried shrimp & grits really good. Piece of pecan praline cake, yum. Regulars were eating lunch special, Monday was meatloaf & vegetables, nothing left on plates and place was full at lunch!

Go here. Eat lots. It's well worth the 7 minute drive off the interstate. They even have SportsCenter playing on a little TV and Jeremy loves to talk football.

Yelp saves the day for a local lunch spot. Wife and I hit this place as we left Savannah. Great pulled BBQ sandiwch and delish BBQ beans. Food will drive you to a nap in a hurry...but it's VERY good.

Want something authentic? Fresh? Delicious? This is the place to go. Awesome potato salad, even more awesome barbeque! Found it when I was searching for a nice, authentic barbeque place. I think I will be making a trip out here again this week!

My three also crazy BBQ people and I were driving North and NEEDED BBQ. Yelp to the rescue! This place is a short journey off of I-95 and well worth it, like a beacon in a fast food wasteland! I got the Double Play, with pulled pork and brisket (with Georgia like BBQ sauce, a tomato-y, vinegar-y mix on it) and mac and cheese and coleslaw (interestingly, with gherkins in it) and texas toast all of the side. SO MUCH GOODNESS. I loved the pulled pork and the mac and cheese the best! I also samped the Brunswick stew (the owner graciously gave my friend some to try when she asked what was in it) and the collards which were perfect and not too vinegar-y like they tend to be. My friend sucked his ribs dry. My veggie friend stocked up on "sides on sides on sides" (all the sides) and declared it her best BBQ experience ever. Needless to say, can't wait til we're back in the area to try it again!

Found this gem on Yelp after getting off the plane. It was as good as expected. The home cookin BBQ was well worth the 20 minute drive from the airport. Try the low country pork sandwich - you can't go wrong. My friend said the collard greens were some of the best she ever had. As a bonus the counter service was super sweet. Nothing goes better with BBQ than some southern charm!

I found this place while traveling on the road. Had the beef brisket sandwich with potato salad. Was great BBQ and the owner was friendly and even sent me with a "care package" of his famous stew! Was great on my road trip!!!

AMAZING! Stop here!! The brisket and the ribs will stay good even in your fridge for two days. The flavors are so perfect! And the staff is so friendly and accommodating. Answers your questions with a smile. Dont pass on the HOMEMADE red velvet AMAZING light with just the right sweetness. The chicken had so much flavor, I almost thought I was devouring pork. Awesome BBQ!

Smokiest ribs ever! The reviews are right, this place has some pretty amazing BBQ. Pork, brisket, Mac n cheese, all good. Big potions and good prices too. Rustic building and friendly service.

Absolutely awesome BBQ! A must hit place if your down this way or driving by. We detoured off if 95 on out way back up to VA and it's well worth the detour. Melts in your mouth. Sauce is tasty, sweet, yet a hint if vinegar. Brisket melts in your mouth. The pork was excellent. The Mac and cheese was outstanding.. If you pass this place by your nuts!

I tried Babe's today for lunch, and I would say it lived up to its high rating. As others have mentioned it is a pretty basic and small location, but the food and service were both good. You place your order at the counter, but they bring the food to you. They had actual plates and silverware (I hate places that use plastic silverware, and putting a piece of wax paper in a basket is kind of lame too). I had the pork plate with collard greens for a side. Both were excellent, and the collard greens had a little spiciness to them so I felt they didn't really need pepper sauce. My coworkers had ribs/mac & cheese and brisket/beans, and the only miss out of that bunch was the mac & cheese. The prices on everything seemed quite reasonable. I'll definitely be back to try some more!

Short driving distance from Marriott Fairfield hotel near airport. Owner was very friendly. The smoke area is no joke. There are enough picture on yelp. The food taste great! We love the ribs the most. It is soft and tasty. The copped pork also has a great flavor to it. I feel it is a little dry but then again other like them dry. The chicken was full of flavor. Sausage was cooked perfectly. We like the following sides -Mac and cheese, beans, and cole slaw. Do not expect a fancy restaurant. I rate this place based on quality of food and not the condition o the restaurant. In my opinion, this is like a hole in a wall restaurant. Highly recommended when you are around the area. Their portions are pretty good. I did not get to check out the restroom but I am sure it is the same condition as the seating area.

I couldn't be more disappointed. Ordered the brisket sandwich and fries to go. Got to the airport to eat it. Open the box. A piece of bread cut in half. Three small strips of brisket that was so small it fit between the two half slices of bread. Meat was good. However after eating that and the fries.... I'm still hungry. I'm 5'10". I weigh 200lbs. I should be in a food coma. I will never return.

Excellent barbecue. The ribs were fork tender and the beans were the best I've had, and my family owned a barbecue restaurant. It is a bit off of the beaten pathway if you are looking to stop and you are driving down I95. This place is in No-G Georgia, as in you will get No Gs on your phone. That being said, it is well worth the trip.

I love it when something good happens to you when you least expect it. That's exactly what happened, two Canadians driving blurry eyed and confused then bam!! On the right, smoke, cut logs, outdoor patio with umbrellas, a nice wooden building, Babes bar-b-q shack, and yes a life size figure of the awesome Babe Ruth bat in hand out front. QUICK RIGHT good news, work trucks, men, big men LOCALS!!..Found ourselves a parking spot next to the wood pile and building containing the smoker. We just stumbled upon BBQ heaven man!! I squeezed my wife's hand smiled, and walked through the front screen door.We were greeted by the site of hog or pig depending what part of the world you are from standing on hind legs reading the menu, yep that's rite, and what a menu it was. It was busy, that's great, food must be good. The menu had all BBQ essentials beef, pork, chicken, sandwiches, sides and desserts .It was our turn to order and this is when we met Mr Tommy Tomkins the owner. Big man, big smile , I ordered the pulled pork plate with baked beans side. Julie ordered the rib plate with potato salad. We pulled up a couple of chairs at a table in front of the kitchen, and just enjoyed watching Tommy work his southern charm on all his costumers .I say work, but it was all natural and heart felt and just added to the ambiance ,more about this man later. OK. how was the food? It was awsome, you could smell the smoke and it was good smoke .It permeated the pork ribs and beans I ordered, and the dry rub on my ribs was the best I have ever tasted ,so were the beans by the way. My ribs came with BBQ sauce on them, but if you want to raise the bar on flavor there are two bottles of the sauce on each table, one regular and one with a bit of heat. My wife noticed a cake on the counter and had to have a slice. We shared. It was praline/pecan. Best we had ever had. We were full, happy and content that we stumbled upon the best southern BBQ joint anywhere . As all good things must come to an end, we said good buy to Tommy the owner ,and thanked him for his hospitality, and although it was busy he asked where we were from and told him from Canada, he smiled and waved , he really did.. Any way two day's later, we were on our way to the Atlanta airport. We decided to drive out of our way for lunch, YA at Babes. We walked through the door and Tommy looks up, smiles and says " Hey Canada " enough said...

My family and I stopped at Babe's today on our way to the Savannah airport after a week in Hilton Head. We needed something quick for lunch and wanted a good local joint - Babe's was perfect! Just fifteen minutes from the airport and some authentic, delicious barbecue. The Low Country sandwich with pulled pork and coleslaw was excellent; I didn't try the wings that my brother ordered but they got rave reviews. Both my nephews enjoyed their brisket sandwich with Mac and Cheese. The team at Babe's was friendly and very hospitable!

I cannot say enough good about this place. WOW! We were in Savannah for the night and wanted to get some great BBQ while in town. The number of options was overwhelming but thanks to the reviews on Yelp we entered Babe's into our GPS. (Added bonus, it was just down the street from our hotel.) Delicious Brisket. Delicious Redneck Ravioli. Delicious Stew. Delicious Mac & Cheese. Delicious Ribs! And the service - equally as wonderful as the food.

The smokiest BBQ I have ever had. Cooked perfectly. Priced right. Clean establishment. Well manored staff and customers. Family friendly. When you get in the area just follow your nose. Its tucked into a small shopping mall with a statue out front. Try it. I promise you will be back.

The best BBQ you can find in Savannah. I have lived in Kansas City and Memphis. Babes reminded me of the good BBQ I have eaten in those BBQ meccas. It is located a bit off the path but is not that far from downtown. I tried the pulled pork sandwich on Texas toast with mac n cheese and beans. My friend had brisket with mac n cheese and Brunswick stew. He was not impress by the Brunswick stew as it was "too thin and tasted of tomato soup." The mac n cheese had some spice to it and was exceptional. Well done Babe's!

  • Krista M.

Delicious!

He was generous with his cooking and meat smoking tips but something tells me, that even with our own smoker set-up at home it may be hard to reach the culinary heights of this humble place. .

Best barbecue I've had for a few years! 10 minutes or less from I-95 -- worth the side trip. We shared a plate with two meats and two sides. We chose brisket and ribs with macaroni and cheese and Brunswick stew. Each was a worthy example of its kind. Dessert was a shared slab of Red Velvet Cake -- homemade, moist, and with a perfect balance of cake and cream cheese frosting. The other dessert choice today was Key Lime Cake, which looked equally good.

This is the some of the best BBQ I have ever had. The pulled pork is very tender and in the perfect portions. In my experience, the secret to good BBQ is all in the sauce; and this sauce delivers. The mac n cheese is a must try

We found Babe's through searching Yelp on a trip from Florida to NJ. It is definately added to our places to stop the next time we do this drive. All four people in the car had the same opinion..........awesome BBQ!!!! This is definately a must try! We pulled up at 7:00 and noticed they closed at 7. They were very friendly and told us to come in. There were about 4 other tables eating in and several people coming in to pick up to go orders. Three of us had the ribs which fell off the bone and were probably the best we have had in a long time. The baked beans were great and the mac n cheese is definately worth trying. We tried a piece of the chocolate cake which was also VERY good. We will be back!!

Went straight here after arriving at the Savannah, GA airport on a tip from the car rental guy. Great find. I'm no BBQ connoisseur, but it was delicious. The fact that it was raining and we still saw the huge BBQ being tended outside was a good sign. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans, cole slaw, and sweet tea to drink. The pulled pork was served between two slices of Texas toast. Ended up eating in my car because of a cold, gusty downpour, and Babe's interior is really only set up for warm weather. You order at a counter and eat in what looks like a large screened-in porch with a few tables. If you're coming from the airport, it's on the left-hand side of the road, past the large farmer's market. Enjoy!
